Kayak Fishing – Tanah Merah Report 29th August 2009

After a 1 week break from my last trip out, I could feel that my body muscles were finally more or less rested. As the week before I’ve been out paddling 3 times. Out from my deep sleep and still feeling groggy.. Washed up and prepared to get moving.

As I opened my door, from the bottom corner of my eye, at that moment I thought I saw a rat running for cover under my shoe rack. Mind you I’m staying on the 9th Floor, Corner Unit. I gave it a couple of taps and shook the rack but nothing came running out and thought I might have been seeing things and decided to leave.

Sped down the PIE and it took me to SAF Yacht Club witihn 30mins. Almost reaching to the destination, I almost died.. as the last hump on the road was not properly indicated… Slammed on my brakes.. Screeching Tyres.. and a loud Kaput.. as my suspensions hit rock bottom. Survived and car was alright.. *Thank You God*

Just as I’ve arrived, Ian pulled up next to me and we started unloading and waiting for our HERO of the day Mervin. It’s because of him we get to launch from INSIDE the marina which makes life easier for us all.
Before we know it, we were up and ready to go..

Greeted by a pleasent sunrise, compared to the last 5 days that have been raining every morning, we started our ritual pumping exercise!!

Systems checked and ready to go!!

Mervin with his Yak.. Impressive Setup!!

Ian with the all good to go.

Just as we were about to go.. I noticed a slightly injured Mullet that was kinda trap towards shore.. So I pop into the water, and caught it by hand!! WEEE First fish of the day.. BWAHAHA Dunno count or not.. LOL and release it in deeper waters were, it manage to swim away quite alright.

So off we went.. First off to the breakwaters of Tanah Merah.. I tried everything from deep divers, mid divers, JIGS… and trolling which could not even give me a bite.. Ian on the other hand had a Spanish Mack on his tamban jigs!!!!

I guess.. I paddle quite abit, trying hard to hit a fish on a troll but no luck today..
Merv managed to land a small leng chiem on live prawn.. Which Ian has the photo for it at the moment.
I believe Ian would write a better report then me, so leaving it up to him to post it in the forums..

So all in all it was a great paddle, met a friendly boatman that was surprise to see us Kayak Fishing..
Best part we never knew how we going to catch fish today.. LOL.. One on livebait.. One Spanish Mack by Tamban hooks and one Mullet using HANDS!!! LOL

Till then.. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels!!

Kayak Fishing at Tanah Merah

Tomorrow am going to be Yak Fishing at Tanah Merah together with Pearly and babymerv5. Hope it would be an interesting trip for me. As this time round it would be a PURE LURING Session for me. LOL.. Hope it would provide me with something 🙂 So going to empty my weights and hooks out of my bag to make sure I don’t become desperate and try bottom fishing LOL…

Anyway Stay Tuned for the reports. Hope it would be a good one 🙂
Nightz all!!

Fishing – Man catch Fish or Fish catch Man?

I was just sitting at my comp, doing some design stuff, replying emails and surfing some fishing websites at the same time. Also not to mention looking forward for tomorrow that I’ll be fishing off my kayak around Sentosa and expecting what kind of fishes that I’ll be getting.

Then it hit me. What is fishing?? Is fishing as simple as it sounds? Man fishes for the fish???
Or could it be the other way. The fishes actually fishes for the man.
In sense that it’s the thrill of not knowing what fish is going to be at the end of the line that makes the anglers return to the sport…

Mind you, those silvery scaled friends are so helping the economy as well. With the advancement of technologies and the increasing detailed artificial lures that is “SUPPOSE” to help you enhance your catch. But then it’s always catches the anglers first more then the fishes. And the price tag.. OMG… some going into the region of S$50bucks per piece!!

All this for the Sport of fishing. Nope.. it’s not a cheap sport that’s for sure. In fact, I remembered reading up somewhere online that Fishing is actually the top-earning revenue sports in America. Compare to Golf, Basketball or even Baseball. Funny ain’t it. But when we factor in what is needed to be bought as a Pro Angler… you will know why.

1) Bass Fishing Boats
2) Multipler rods and reels.
3) Tons of lures

Ouch!!!!! But then again.. You just got to love the great outdoors and what God has created for us, Man to live in 🙂

I’m beginning to enjoy my fishing more now a days with my newly acquired Kayak. I’ve been looking at nature from a different perspective now. Imagine peddling into half a metre of clear seawater and noticing fish fins breaking the water while they search for food on the bottom.. Or a family of Otters!!!! Nice…

Okie enough of the boring talk.. and back to the society.

Today, I’ve decided to come out full force in doing freelancing and do away working for any one else. I intially had plans to start up a company with a friend but somehow along the way there was a mis-communication.

However we since have cleared that mis-communication but not too sure now would the biz go well on my end. But at least I’ve got to give it a try and on the other hand. Get freelance for my own. To get extra income for my family.

I used to have my own website called Gfxcreation. But now am changing it to GfxIcons which represents Graphix Icons. So yeah hopefully the website would be up and running within a day or 2.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any need for professional designs. Web or Graphics.

Reel and Rod in Hospital

Haiz damn sad.. Today I’ve sent my reel a Daiwa Megaforce MF100TSHL Left Hand Model for repairs at Hotspot. As after my last trip and wash down, I reckon something on the inside cracked that when I reel back my twitching bar activates as well… Actually it’s quite a good reel I might say.. Esp for the price I paid for it.

Cast well, handles fish well.. Drag is quite soild.. Love it!! Now the sad part .. it seems like I’ve got to be prepared to be out of action with my reel for 3 to 4 weeks or longer. As it seems Daiwa takes forever to get it fix and this is a common issue with this reel. Haiz …

Then I finally brought my favourite Ultra light rod by Greys to get it’s guide fixed, well at least that would only take like 1 week.. Here’s the write up on it 🙂 I reckon I might be the only one in Singapore with that rod though as I personally hand carried it in from UK. But then again I might be wrong 🙂

Sad day it is.. to know that I’ll be without my reel for 1mth.. and not forgetting my Daughter, Ashleigh has been having fever on and off for the past 3 days.. One more day like that and back to the doctors again.. 😦 Hope she recovers real soon and well.

Till then.. Cheerios

New Kayak report

Hi all,

Back earlier today from a session of kayaking and fishing.
A new report can be found under the kayak fishing section.

Kayak Fishing – 22nd August – Sembawang

Got up pretty early this morning at about 530am and slowly took my time to get all my stuff into the car. But before I know it .. it was 615am .. And I needed to be at Sembawang Jetty by 7. So I had to make light speed in my little picanto.. from Bt-batok to Sincere Tackle.. to the Jetty. Reach location by 650 and started to set my Yak up. Was greeting with a nice multi-coloured sky and 2 buddies chatting to the sunrise.
Soon after KT arrive and started getting his YAK up and going for the launch 🙂
Buddy Sunrise

This trip round, I was arm with my lures and 100grms of live prawn that went into my bait-holder 🙂 We managed to launch off at about 730am and headed straight for the mangroves.

On the way there.. we noticed some baitfish been whacked and then the all so similar brood silver body of a Barramundi flashed at us.. Woo… I thought to myself.. “HO SEH LIAO”. Lures were up and flying to the baitfishes within seconds. However no bite. Haiz… We cast for awhile more and decided to give a pass on it and head towards the destination.

This time round I noticed… Fork Tail fishes were cutting the water.. WOW!! I thought 2nd time lucky.. Confirm either Tarpon or Herring.

Out came the live prawns to a floater!! .. 2nd cast into the strike zone produce me a Herring.. Then I decided to release drag abit to play abit longer.. man that was a stupid thing to do.. After then 5th jump it spat the hook!! :idol:
I had another take later again.. But upon striking the Herring flew like 2 ft up and wide… LOL..

Soon the fishing was really slow and we became desperate as not to blank on this trip.. We went to a nearby pillar and we all managed to get fish there LOL ..

After awhile more of fish-less action, we decided to call it a day and went off back to shore 🙂
Plentiful of fun days ahead I can see this happening almost every fortnightly!! Though am totally burned now!!

Oh and we manage to spot a family of Otters 🙂 That definitely made my day 🙂
